Jeans can be so confusing. Different cuts make for very different jeans.

Knowing your body shape will help in finding the best pair you've ever owned. Always start with a bigger size than what you think you are. You may be pleasantly surprised!

Jeans

Straight Leg, Skinny, Boyfriend or Bootcut?

Four different popular types of cuts to choose from. Body shape is important to know. Are you apple, round, triangle, etc? What type of fit are you looking for? Fitted or loose?

Straight Leg

This silhouette is straight running the same width down the leg. This is the type I like, it gives an illusion of being almost the same top to bottom. I am bottom heavy. I do not wish to emphasize this area. A straight jean elongates or straightens the shape. For my shape, I size up.

Skinny Leg

Skinny leg jeans have become a standard in every woman's wardrobe. They give a nice fitted curvy appeal. A slim fit from top to bottom. This silhouette gives the illusion of a more shapely figure. I do like a skinny jean but they do enlarge my already enlarged areas. For my shape, I've had to size up 2 sizes. Not good for the ego.

Boyfriend Fit

These are my favorite. They are slouchy with relaxed fit down the legs. The illusion of wearing your guy's favorite pair of jeans. The mistake here is getting a smaller size than your normal size. They are meant to be oversized. In this type of jean start with your normal size, the manufacturer has already added the allowance for fit. These are everyday friendly, dressed up or down.

Bootcut Jeans

This type of jeans never go out of style. Being slightly tapered in the thigh and widening from the knee to the hem, gives a nice easy shape. This cut allows for cowboy boots, work boots, and any type of boots. I'm average height and attempting to wear bootcut jeans gives a short, stocky effect that's not appealing. The widening of the hem seems to widen everything.

Time and Patience

Time and patience is all you need to find your best pair. Take your time, have an open mind, and try on different sizes, in one style, in one brand. You'll see a difference in how they fit. Wearing your correct size, and not the size you wore in high school, will make a world of difference. Sexy, sophisticated and confident are what you are looking for.
